Today has been such a busy day for me I was out for 12+ hours and just got home, just in time to get a song of the day posted for today before it turned midnight (and tomorrow), but I’m pooped so don’t have much energy to type too much. All I have to say is good night, which is why today’s song of the day is The Beatles’ “Good Night”.
I’m not quite sure how, but I stumbled upon this song of the day by Mystikal “Bouncin’ Back (Bumpin’ Me Against The Wall)” and a bunch of his other songs, the other day. It completely brought me back to middle school when I used to have one of his CDs and he was on the radio a lot. His beats and Rap style are so cool and dfferen’t and he had some really catchy songs. I love the New Orleans sound that they work into this song and a bunch of his other songs. He actually has a new album coming out this year after being absent from music for over 10 years because of legal issues and jail time. I hope he still knows how to make a catchy, funky jam like this.
The title of the song of the day, “I’m So Tired” by The Beatles, perfectly expresses how I feel right now……Zzzzzzzzzz……Good night.
I’ve slowly but surely gotten into Muse over the course of the past 5 or so years. They are a really great band!!! The song of the day “I Belong to You” is probably my favorite song by them. It’s from their amazing album, “The Resistance” which is a Rock Opera to end all Rock Opera’s. They are like Queen for a new age. I’m looking forward to hearing their next album, which is due out this year.
Today’s song of the day is a total throwback. The Brothers Johnson’s “Strawberry Letter 23” is such a GREAT tune!!! I love good old fashioned Funk like this. You can see that artists like OutKast & Sleepy Brown (basically The Dungeon Family) were influenced by stuff like this. And oddly enough, The Dungeon Family’s “Trans DF Express” was yesterday’s song of the day. Enjoy the smooth Funk as you unwind from yet another Tuesday.
So I’ve been meaning to share this song for a while now, since I did my top 5 Rappers of all time countdown, a few weeks back. If you don’t already know, The Dungeon Family is a supergroup that consists of OutKast, Goodie Mob, Sleepy Brown and many other awesome southern Rappers and Producers. This group of Rappers, Singers and Producers are all legends in their own right. They formed back in the early 90s and changed the face of southern Rap as well as music in general. The most notable members from The Dungeon Family are of course, Andre 3000 and Big Boi of OutKast and Cee-Lo of Goodie Mob, who is now a coach of the hit TV show, The Voice. They have numerous awards between them, including many Grammys. I’m not sure how many, but I’m sure its at least a dozen, including one for Album of the Year in 2004 for OutKast’s “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below”. The song of the day, “Trans DF Express” is the single from their awesome collaborative album, “Even In Darkness” that came out just over 10 years ago, back in 2001. So grab your ticket and hop on the Trans DF Express!!!
This is a rare recording of 2 of my very favorite artists, David Gilmour from Pink Floyd and Kate Bush singing “Comfortably Numb” live. This is one of my very favorite Floyd songs. It’s from their epic double album “The Wall”. An interesting fact is that David Gilmour discovered and helped get Kate Bush started in the music industry in the late 70’s. I have to say a big thank you to David, because I absolutely love Kate. They should totally do an album together. They compliment each other well and are both such amazing, legendary artists.
So unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the new big thing, “The Hunger Games”. I read all of the books last summer. More like devoured them. They were just so great and addictive!!! The first movie adaptation in the trilogy, “The Hunger Games” came out yesterday and it’s setting all kinds of records. It has the #7 highest grossing midnight showing of all time and the #1 highest grossing midnight showing of all time for a movie that’s not a sequel. All the other top 10 are sequels and the next non-sequel is #18 overall. Grant it, Hunger Games will have sequels and I’m sure they will do even better, now that the cat’s out of the bag on how awesome the story is. I liked the 2nd book, “Catching Fire” even better. It was my favorite of all 3 actually. That will be out, Fall 2013. I haven’t seen “The Hunger Games” yet, but I will tonight. Can’t wait!!! On top of those records, it holds the 5th highest grossing opening day ever and #1 highest grossing opening day ever for a non-sequal. Wow!! I knew it was going to be big, but this is huge!!! All 3 of the books as well as the box set of all 3 books together hold the top 4 spots on the current Amazon top selling books list. With all of this Hunger Games fever going around, I thought it fitting for today’s song of the day to be the the song “Safe & Sound” by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars from the film’s surprisingly, really good soundtrack “The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond”. The soundtrack is made up of songs by of course Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars, but also Kid Cudi, Maroon 5, Neko Case, Arcade Fire, The Decemberists, Miranda Lambert and many others. It’s a very folky album, mostly quite, soothing and haunting tunes, that give me hope for the quality of the film itself. It’s a very grounded album and not quite what I expected from a big blockbuster movie, but very refreshing and bodes well for the film itself, showing that they are willing to take risks and not just shoved mainstream drivel down our throats. Enjoy the song of the day and go and see The Hunger Games, ASAP!!! What are you waiting for!?! Volume 11 will be here when you get back……
Today’s song of the day is B.o.B’s new single “So Good” from his upcoming sophomore album “Strange Clouds”, which is coming out on May 1st. I’ve been a big fan of B.o.B since before he even dropped his first studio album. I first heard him during his mix-tape days and told my friends he was going to be big, but nobody believed me. When I first heard him, I knew he was something special and would go far and I’m very happy to say that I was right. He’s already had 3 top ten hits and I think that this new album will hold a few more for him. He’s talented and different, which there is too little of in this day and age of music. Get em Bob!!!
Today’s song of the day is Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa’s, “Young, Wild and Free” featuring Bruno Mars. The song is from the soundtrack to their Cheech and Chong style film, “Mac and Devin Go To High School”. I haven’t seen the movie, but I love the album and I love this song. It’s so fun and catchy. It kind of makes me long for the days when I was young, wild and free. Now I’m staying late at work most nights and squeezing in blog posts, then I go home, eat dinner, watch some TV and go to sleep and do that same thing the next day. I must say though, I am a very lucky man. I have the best future wife in the world and she makes even the mundane, exciting and enjoyable. So maybe I’m no longer young, wild and free, but I am old, happy and loved. I’ll take that any day!!!
