3000 Is Coming……

At least a guy can dream huh? I and every OutKast/Andre 3000 fan has been waiting for a new album from both OutKast and Andre 3000 (solo) for almost 6 years now. The has been a very draining experience for the Kast faithful. For about 4 of those 6 years we were dragged along in the belief that Big Boi would release a solo album just about every month until it was FINALLY released back in July 2010 and boy was it worth the wait!!! Big Boi’s album “Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty” was in my opinion the best, most sonically charged and different album of that year along with Janelle Monae’s “The ArchAndroid”. Both albums were highly praised by critics and fans alike, yet got snubbed at all award shows for the big awards. They were among the top 3 highest rated albums of the year on Metacritic, a website that aggregates a score based off of all reviews that have been submitted on the alum from all major sources.

Anyway, I digress. In 2010 we finally got Big Boi’s album, but now we are still waiting on Andre 3000’s solo album……and OutKast’s album, but if Dre can drop his solo album, I can wait a little longer on an OutKast joint. Over the past 6 years, Andre hasn’t been totally in hiding. He has been featured on 21 tracks to date, teasing us 1 song at a time.

Here is a complete list of every song that has attempted to hold me over till Andre’s grand return:

1. DJ Unk – Walk It Out (Remix) feat. Andre 3000 & Jim Jones
2. Devin The Dude – What A Job feat. Andre 3000 & Snoop Dogg
3. Jay-Z – 30 Something (Remix) feat. Andre 3000 & Ice Cube
4. Lloyd – I Want You (Remix) feat. Andre 3000 & NaS
5. Rich Boy – Throw Some D’s (Remix) feat. Andre 3000, Jim Jones, Nelly, Murphy Lee & The Game
6. UGK – International Player’s Anthem (I Choose You) feat. OutKast
7. Fonzworth Bentley – Everybody feat. Andre 3000, Kanye West & Sa-Ra
8. Big Boi – Royal Flush feat. Andre 3000 & Raekwon
9. John Legend – Green Light feat. Andre 3000
10. OutKast – Da Art Of Storytellin’ (Part 4) feat. Marsha Ambrosius
11. Andre 3000 – All Together Now
12. Big Boi – Lookin’ For Ya feat. Andre 3000 & Sleepy Brown
13. Chris Brown – Deuces (Remix) feat. Andre 3000, Drake, T.I., Kanye West & Fabolous
14. Ciara – Ride (Remix) feat. Andre 3000 & Bei Maejor
15. Ke$ha – Sleazy (Remix) feat. Andre 3000
16. Beyonce – Party feat. Andre 3000 & Kanye West
17. Lloyd – Dedication To My Ex feat. Andre 3000 & Lil’ Wayne
18. Lil Wayne – Interlude feat. Tech N9ne & Andre 3000
19. Drake – The Real Her feat. Andre 3000 & Lil Wayne
20. Young Jeezy – I Do feat. Andre 3000 & Jay-Z
21. B.o.B – Play The Guitar feat. Andre 3000

Now don’t get me wrong these songs……at least Andre’s verses on them have all been awesome, but it’s not the same as having just him and an album of his genius. Big Boi and other sources close to Dre have alluded to the release of this long awaited solo album for years now, always saying it will be out this year and then the year comes and goes……and nothing, but I think this year is FINALLY the year. Andre seems to be everywherwe lately!!! Aside from ramping up his featurings lately. He has been appearing in commercials for Gillette. The commercials are below:

It seems to me he’s using these commercials and the increase of featurings to get himself back into the spotlight after so many years of laying low. Also Gorillaz, James Murphy and Andre himself have a song called “DaYaThing”, as part of a Converse “Three Artists. One Song.” campaign, being released on February 23rd!!! I REALLY think he’s coming back and SOON. I CAN’T WAIT ANYMORE!!! I have sat around SO many nights……and days imagining what his new album might be like, knowing that whatever I could think up would never touch the awesomeness that Andre 3000 has been cooking up and it seems that I will soon be able to feast my ears on the Dre Buffet!!! I just NEED some real music from one of my only living idols. Come on 3 Stax and hit us with what you got!!!

Grammy Wrap Up

So last night was the 54th Grammy Awards and I have to say it was a great show!!! Lots of great performances, although I could have done without a Chris Brown performance, not to mention two of them and a win for him for best R&B Album. Also Nicki Minaj went way over the top in the most weird and unoriginal way possible. Her performance was a jab at the Catholic Church. Like that hasn’t been done before by Madonna and Lady Gaga. It was just weird for weirds sake. It may have been visually flashy, but was just done for shock value with no real depth or artistic value.

Other than those few negative moments, I can’t really complain with how it went. Some of the great performances of the night, came to you via Bruno Mars, Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Coldplay & Rihanna, Glen Campbell, Foo Fighters and Paul McCartney (twice!!!). All the big winners were deserving. And by winners I mainly mean Adele, because she walked away with just about every major award. She took home 6 awards in total, including the big award of the night, Album of the Year, as I predicted. It was pretty obvious that, that would happen. Also Bon Iver took home the award for Best New Artist, as I also predicted.

LL Cool J was the first host that the Grammys has had in many years and he did a great job. He began the evening leading a group prayer for Whitney Houston. Later in the evening, Jennifer Hudson performed a beautiful and moving tribute to Whitney Houston, as well. The only thing that was really missing from the night was a tribute to Amy Winehouse and the inclusion of Don Cornelius in the tribute montage for those that have passed away in the past year. However it was a very memorable night and of the nominees, the people who most deserved it, won for a change. The Grammys had been kind of losing me in recent years with poor choices for winners and weak overall shows, but they won me back this year. I can’t wait for next year!!! It’s MY Superbowl!!!

P.S. Paul McCartney ended the show with the Abbey Road medley. ending with the song “The End”!!! It doesn’t get any better than that. “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”

Song(s) Of The Day: 1/19/12 (#5. Justin Timberlake / *NSYNC) (Rock Your Body/Bye Bye Bye etc.)

The #5 artist/group on my top 7 artists/groups is Justin Timberlake/*NSYNC. They are my favorite contemporary (from my generation) Pop act. Let me explain why Justin/*NSYNC is on this list with such legends and icons. First, you really have to understand that Justin Timberlake/*NSYNC are pop icons of my generation. Just like Elvis, The Beatles, Michael Jackson were of their generations. These guys were so wildly popular when I was in middle school and high school. I grew up on them/him. They are one of the first groups/artists, I remember liking, all on my own, from my generation (the very first, I can remember, is actually #6 on this list and you will hear about them tomorrow). The first concert I ever went to was *NSYNC (with my mother). It took me a while to admit that. But they were awesome!!! They have the top 2 fastest selling albums of all times. When Justin went solo he got even better as an artist. I’ve seen him solo in concert also, with a friend, back in 2007 and he was great as always and showed he was also a respectable musician by playing piano, guitar, drums and even keytar!!! You can see the exact concert I was at, on DVD “Futuresex/Loveshow – Live From Madison Square Garden”. People have made a lot out of who is the “new” Michael Jackson”. People have said Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown, but the real inheritor of M.J,’s impossible to fill throne is without a doubt, Justin. Not only is he the most successful of this aforementioned group of performers, as well as super talented, his music is often uncannily similar to that of M.J., he was a child star like Michael (Mickey Mouse Club), he was in a boy band like M.J. (Jackson 5 of course), and let’s not forget that Michael Jackson gave his personal stamp of approval to Justin by performing with *NSYNC at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards, as well having *NSYNC perform with him at what turned out to be his final concert. Justin Timberlake is without a doubt the biggest male star of his generation. He’s made so many catchy, well crafted pop tunes with and without *NSYNC. And he is still young. Unfortunately he hasn’t had a new album since 2006’s, “Futuresex/Lovesound”. Come on with a new album already J.T. (also known by his initials like M.J.). You too OutKast!!! OutKast also hasn’t had a new album since 2006’s, “Idlewild”. All you guys need to come on!!! So today in honor of #5, Justin Timberlake/*NSYNC, check out “Rock Your Body” from Justin, “Bye, Bye, Bye” from *NSYNC and I’ve also included the two videos of Michael Jackson and *NSYNC performing together, all for your viewing pleasure.
