Song of The Day: 5/1/12 (Live Your Life)

I have just discovered a great new female artists. Her name is Yuna. She’s been active in the music industry for about 4 years now and has had a couple albums. Her new self titled album “Yuna” is really fantastic. I just listened to it for the first time, earlier today and it’s rare that I like an album right off the bat, but this album pretty much blew me away. Today’s song of the day is the single “Live Your Life”. What do you think? Check the album out ASAP. It’s a great little gem.

Song Of The Day: 3/4/12 (Beekeeper’s Daughter)

I know I said yesterday that I wanted to make today’s song of the day a Dungeon Family song, but then I heard this new All-American Rejects song “Beekeeper’s Daughter” for the first time today and I had to make it today’s song of the day. I’ve been a fan of The All-American Rejects for a while now. Since the beginning really. I think they are a very talented and catchy little Pop-Punk group. Their new album, “Kids In The Street” comes out on March 26th. Their sound doesn’t vary much from album to album, but they do what it is they do, well. I’ve also always enjoyed the fact that the lead singer, Tyson Ritter and I share the same Birthday, April 24th.

New Music Tuesday: 2/28/12

I haven’t shared much new music since starting my blog about a month and a half ago, because, well, honestly there hasn’t been much to speak of, but in the last week or so, I’ve discover a few new albums that have ranged from really friggin’ great to intriguing.

My favorite of the three albums I will be sharing is Gotye’s “Making Mirrors”. This album actually came out back in August, but I was just put on to it by a couple co-workers and boy am I glad they did. He is an experimental indie Rock musician from Australia. I am totally obsessed with this album right now. I like it so much because it’s just so different and experimental, all while being so damn catchy (all my favorite aspects of good music). As the album progresses it get’s more and more bizarre, but never so much so that it just gets weird. It always stays grounded and stays sounding amazing the whole way through. Needless to say, this album comes HIGHLY recommended and will not disappoint.

The second album I would like to share is Fun.’s “Some Nights”. Fun. is a New York City based band that’s been around for a few years now. I was told about this album early last week and how their single “We Are Young” featured one of my favorite female singers, Janelle Monae. So I gave the album a spin and I must say it’s not a bad little album. It’s young and hip and has huge, catchy choruses. The album even gets a little operatic at times (very Queen). A couple days after getting into them, I started hearing “We Are Young” on the radio, so I guess these guys are coming up and I think they deserve it. They don’t sound like anyone else, really and make some pretty catchy, “fun” tunes. This album is definitely worth checking out too. It looks like they might be big in the not too distant future.

And the third and final album I’d like to share on this New Music Tuesday is Frankie Rose’s “Interstellar”. This is Frankie Rose’s 2nd album. She is pretty underground, but you may know her from a group called the Dum Dum Girls. The album is well concieved and executed. It ranges from quite, soft tracks to upbeat 80’sish songs. I haven’t had the oppurtunity to listen to this album too  many times yet, but I did like it quite a bit from the few times that I did get to listen to it.

Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing some songs from these and other new albums for songs of the day. Have you heard any of these albums? If so, what do you think of them? If not definitely take a listen and let me know what you think.

A Gorilla Of A Song

Gorillaz, Andre 3000 and James Murphy released a new song today “DoYaThing” as part of a Converse campaign called “3 Artists, 1 Song”. Below is the link to the song. Check it out!!! And if you like it, you can download it there for free (legally)!!! It’s really good, but what would you expect from these guys. Very trippy.

Song Of The Day: 2/3/2012 (Give Me All Your Luvin’)

This just in. Madonna just released her new song and video, “Give Me All Your Luvin'”……and just in time for her big Superbowl performance on Sunday. She may be trying a little too hard here, to tie in her Superbowl half time show, with the football themed video and the sound of cheerleaders worked into the song itself. I’m guessing this will be one of the songs she will be performing on Sunday, which means she’ll probably be bringing out Nicki Manaj & M.I.A.. I only listened to it once, so I’m not sure how I feel about it. As far as I can tell, it’s nothing special, but I thought, with her upcoming halftime extravaganza and the release of her first new song in about 4 years, along with the fact that she IS Madonna, she deserved to be song of the day. I must say, she still looks good for what, 70!?! The song is from her upcoming, 12th studio album, “MDNA”, due out on March 26th.   What do you think of the new tune?

New Music Tuesday: 1/10/12

Unfortunately, I didn’t find any good new music this New Music Tuesday. When the best new CD of the week, on Spotify is a Ja Rule greatest hits compilation, you know it’s a slow week in the musical world. There are however a couple new songs out, that I  think are worth sharing.

Jay-Z must have ran right from the hospital to the studio after his and Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy was born because he released a song yesterday, titled “Glory” where he raps about his newborn on a well produced Pharrell track, which also samples a bit of baby Blue crying in the background and credits her as a featuring. Out of the womb for just a couple days and he’s already got her in a song. I guess she’ll be joining the family business. Check out the proud Papa rap about his new pride and joy.

Paul McCartney also released a new song on December 20th called “My Valentine”, but I just found out about it today. It’s off of his upcoming album of standards called “Kisses on the Bottom” which will be released, February 7th. This will be his fifteenth solo studio album, not including any Beatles or Wings albums. The title doesn’t allude to kisses on someone’s bottom, like you might be thinking, but kisses on the bottom of a letter, which Paul cleared up because the entire world apparently has a dirty mind. You all should be ashamed!!! Okay, I’ll admit it, I thought the same thing. The song is very cool and like he said of the whole album, “great come home from work and relax with a cup of wine music”. Take it away Sir Paul……
