Song Of The Day: 3/2/12 (The Real Thing)

Over the course of the next 7 days, I’d like to share songs from 7 albums from a playlist, I put together of the 50 Best Albums of the 00’s. Today’s song of the day is “The Real Thing” by Gwen Stefani from her debut solo album “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” Unfortunately there is no video to accompany this song, but I think that it is a great example of the cool, sweet sound of this album. “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” is like candy. It was a big hit when it came out in 2004 and with good reason it was chock full of catchy hooks and fun beats. This is Gwen at her best. Listening to it almost 8 years later, it still sounds fresh. Gwen Stefani has really great Pop sensibilities, which has helped carry her career to the heights it has reached, wether it be with No Doubt or solo. She is currently finishing up a new album with No Doubt……finally!!! Is anybody else excited to see what her and the rest of No Doubt have cooked up for the new album?

Song Of The Day: 3/13/12 (Just A Girl)

Today’s 90’s Rock song of the day is No Doubt’s “Just A Girl”. I remember the first time I heard this song so vividly. I was in 7th or 8th grade and my best friend played it for me and lent me the CD and I walked home listening to this song on repeat on my Discman the whole way. No Doubt is no doubt one of the best bands of the 90’s and this is just another fun little song from them. They haven’t released an album since 2001’s “Rock Steady”, but have been talking about a comeback album for about 3 years now and are now saying it will be coming out this year, with the first single supposedly called “Undone”. Until then, enjoy this little slice of the 90’s.
