Song Of The Day: 4/27/12 (Fight To Win)

Today’s song of the day is Goodie Mob’s performance on “The Voice” this past Tuesday, of their first single, “Fight To Win” with all four of them back together again after 13 years!!! I wanted to share it the other day, but it wasn’t available online yet. I really like the song, but I do wish that the other guys were utilized more. It’s more or less a Cee-Lo song, which is fine, I love Cee-lo, but this is a Goodie Mob song and I want to hear all of them, after them being absent for so long. Hopefully the full album “Age Against The Machine” will have a lot more Khujo, T-Mo and Big Gipp. What do you think of the new song?

Song Of The Day: 4/23/12 (Black Ice)

Goodie Mob reunited tonight on The Voice after a 13 year hiatus!!! It was great to see them all back together again. The new song is called “Fight To Win” off of their upcoming new album “Age Against The Machine”. The Voice doesn’t seem like quite the right platform for Goodie Mob and it seemed a lot more like just a Cee-Lo song. None of the other guys, T-Mo, Khujo or Big Gipp really rapped in the performance. I hope the new album incorporates the rest of them much more. I wanted to post the new song, but it’s not available online yet, so I thought I’d share my favorite of their old songs “Black Ice” featuring OutKast. OutKast and Goodie Mob are a part of the legendary Southern Rap clique “The Dungeon Family” and now that Goodie Mob is back together, it is making me long all the more to see OutKast back together. In the mean time I can’t wait to hear the new Goodie Mob album. Now I’m sure many of you are a little unfamiliar with Goodie Mob, but I can tell you they were an awesome and important part of the Southern Rap movement in the 90s. So tell me, what you really know about the Dirty South?

Follow Me On Spotify!!!

Spotify is an amazing music subscription service that puts millions and millions of songs at your finger tips, instantly. It’s like Pandora Radio, but better because you can choose exactly what you want to listen to (artist, album, song) and not be forced to listen to what Pandora thinks you want to listen to, but if that’s what you want, Spotify also has their own Pandora style radio stations as well.

I’ve used it basically since it first became available in North America, back in July 2011. It started in Europe first and was such a huge success there, it’s now spreading worldwide. It’s also a great place to share music and playlists with your friends. Recently, they have also added really cool music apps that help make the music listening experience even cooler. There is a Rolling Stone app, a Billboard app, a last.fm app and a bunch of other really cool and useful apps.

I’ve explained how exactly the service works, from the free to paid options in a previous post, so I wont bore you with those details again. If you would like to learn more, you can read the previous blog post at the link below:

Or you can go to:

http://www.spotify.com

Anyway, on to the purpose of this post. Join Spotify if you already haven’t and enjoy the expansive universe of music available. If you have already joined and/or when you do, follow my Spotify account and check out what I’m listening to and take a listen to one of my MANY playlists. Hey, you never know I may even start doing special Volume 11 playlist just for you guys.

Keep in mind one of the flaws with Spotify is how it tracks your listsens. It puts up a list of your most listened to artists, albums and songs, but it can be very inaccurate. Right now it says my most listened to artist is currently Common, but I’ve been listening to far more Phil Collins, Matchbox Twenty and Grateful Dead, as of late. Also whatever music you actually own and is loaded into your computer, will automatically be loaded in to your Spotify library, but since artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin aren’t on Spotify they and other non-Spotify artists won’t be tracked, even if your listening to your own Beatles CD’s through Spotify. Otherwise you would see The Beatles and Pink Floyd on top of my listens list a lot. Anyway, follow my Spotify account by clicking the link below and then clicking Add To Favorites when you get to my account. Once you are following me, message me, so I can follow you back. We can start a great little community.:

Song Of The Day: 4/18/12 (Ray Charles)

Today’s song of the day, “Ray Charles” comes from the new Alternative Rap group, Chiddy Bang. Their debut album “Breakfast” came out 2 months ago and it has grown on me in that time. One of my favorite songs from the album is “Ray Charles” and the video is really funny and cool. It kind of reminds me of myself and a friend of mine, when I used to Rap. What do you think of Chiddy Bang and the song?

Song(s) of the Day: 4/17/12 (Hail Mary/2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted)

This year’s Coachella Music Festival’s first weekend was this past weekend and boy were the attendees in for a big surprise when Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre “brought Tupac back to life” via an on stage hologram!!! What an awesome idea!!! The performance of “Hail Mary” and “2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted” was great and makes you miss the Hip-Hop legend all the more. Snoop and Dre are actually in talks about taking the Tupac hologram on a tour too!!! This is a very cool and interesting idea. I would love to go to one of the show. Think of all the other great artists they could do this with (e.g. Michael Jackson, John Lennon, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix etc.) Tupac lives!!!

Song Of The Day: 4/16/12 (Payphone)

Today’s song of the day is the just premiered new Maroon 5 song, “Payphone” featuring Wiz Khalifa. It was just performed for the first time on The Voice. The last song, Maroon 5 premiered on The Voice, was the #1 smash hit “Moves Like Jagger”. This song sounds very radio ready and I think it should do very well. What do you think of the new song? I’ve been a big Maroon 5 fan since their first album, “Songs About Jane” so I can’t wait for their new album “Overexposed” due out on June 26th.

Song(s) Of The Day: 4/8/12 (Ghettomusick/Prototype)

And my #1 favorite album out of my 50 favorite albums of the 00’s is of course the double album, “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below”  by OutKast.

I wanted to share two lesser known songs from the albums, “Ghettomusick” from “Speakerboxxx” and “Prototype” from “The Love Below”. I have said it many times before but, “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” is one of the most expansive, catchy, creative and easily one of my favorite albums of all time. It was wildly popular, successful and well reviewed. It sold over 10 million copies and won Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2004, making it only one of two Hip-Hop albums to ever win that honor. The other being Lauryn Hill with “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”. These two songs may not have been as popular as their other hits from the albums, “Hey Ya!”, “The Way You Move” & “Roses”, but they are equal in quality as is every other song off the albums. Do you have a favorite song from the albums that wasn’t a single? Please share.

Song Of The Day: 4/5/12 (The Dynamo of Volition)

Another of my favorite albums of the 00’s is Jason Mraz’s “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.” Today’s song of the day from it is “The Dynamo of Volition”. This song is so funky, fresh and awesome!!! I love his sing/rap style. This style is at it’s best in this song. Everything about this song is just so perfect. It always puts me in an awesome mood. This album is easily in my top 5 albums of the 00’s. Jason Mraz’s new album “Love Is A Four Letter Word” comes out this coming Tuesday, 4/10 and I can’t wait!!! If it’s even half as good as “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.” it will be ridiculously good. I’ve heard some of his throw away songs from it off of his live EP “Live Is A Four Letter Word” and they were great!!! If I were in the music industry I see myself making music similar to that of Jason’s. Alas I am not in the music industry, so I will live vicariously through him and his music. His amazing music.

Song Of The Day: 4/4/12 (It’s Over)

Today’s song of the is John Legend’s “It’s Over” featuring Kanye West, from another of my 50 favorite albums of the 00’s, “Evolver”. This wasn’t a single, but damn, it should have been!!! It doesn’t get much more catchy and funky than this. Sometimes it blows my mind the songs that get overlooked as singles. If it wasn’t for “Green Light” featuring Andre 3000, this would be my favorite song on the album and this is an amazing album full of nothing but great songs. Easily one of the best albums of the 00’s.
