Song Of The Day: 4/30/12 (Sixteen Saltines)

I’ve been listening to Jack White’s new, debut solo CD, “Blunderbuss” a lot this past week, since it came out and it’s pretty awesome!!! This is real Rock & Roll, from deep down. The album is not only rocking, but also quite experimental, with even a little Ragtime style piano thrown in. It’s Blues/Rock, but so much more. The more I listen to the album, the more I really appreciate it. I’ve always liked The White Stripes and I must say he is just as good by himself. He was the main creative force behind The White Stripes, so this is basically the same exact thing, but with just himself. Today’s song of the day is the song “Sixteen Saltines” from the album. The whole album is great, but I really like the songs “I’m Shakin'” & “Trash Tongue Talker”. Have you heard the album? What do you think?

Song Of The Day: 4/29/12 (Do The Hippogriff)

I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and I just finished watching the final Harry Potter movie again, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”. I’ve been re-watching all of the films, 1 weekend at a time, for the last couple months. I wanted to see all of them one last time before I put them and the books away for 7 years or so, in order to forget as much about the stories as possible, so when I re-read them, they will be like new. It’s been 13 years since I read the first book and it’s been quite a journey. So tonight, in honor of the best saga ever told, I would like to share a fun song from the 4th movie, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” called “Do The Hippogriff” by the fictional Rock band, The Weird Sisters. Harry Potter, goodbye……for now, friend……

Song Of The Day: 4/28/12 (Bambi)

Been listening to a lot of Prince lately, so I wanted to share one of his songs for today’s song of the day, but it turns out a lot of Prince songs aren’t available on Youtube. I guess Prince is strict about that. The song I picked, that I was actually able to find, was one of his early hits, “Bambi”. Get funky with it and check it out!!!

Song Of The Day: 4/27/12 (Fight To Win)

Today’s song of the day is Goodie Mob’s performance on “The Voice” this past Tuesday, of their first single, “Fight To Win” with all four of them back together again after 13 years!!! I wanted to share it the other day, but it wasn’t available online yet. I really like the song, but I do wish that the other guys were utilized more. It’s more or less a Cee-Lo song, which is fine, I love Cee-lo, but this is a Goodie Mob song and I want to hear all of them, after them being absent for so long. Hopefully the full album “Age Against The Machine” will have a lot more Khujo, T-Mo and Big Gipp. What do you think of the new song?

Song Of The Day: 4/26/12 (I Write Sins Not Tragedies)

Today’s song of the day, “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic! At The Disco is another old song I have suddenly been hearing again on the radio a lot lately. Is there any random older songs you’ve been hearing on the radio a lot lately?

Song Of The Day: 4/25/12 (Riders On The Storm)

The other day, one of my friends committed blasphemy and said that today’s song of the day, “Riders On The Storm” by The Doors was a horrible song!!! I couldn’t believe that he actually thought that. It’s funny though, ever since he said that, I’ve been hearing it a lot on the radio. I absolutely love this song. It’s so cool and chill.

Song Of The Day: 4/23/12 (Black Ice)

Goodie Mob reunited tonight on The Voice after a 13 year hiatus!!! It was great to see them all back together again. The new song is called “Fight To Win” off of their upcoming new album “Age Against The Machine”. The Voice doesn’t seem like quite the right platform for Goodie Mob and it seemed a lot more like just a Cee-Lo song. None of the other guys, T-Mo, Khujo or Big Gipp really rapped in the performance. I hope the new album incorporates the rest of them much more. I wanted to post the new song, but it’s not available online yet, so I thought I’d share my favorite of their old songs “Black Ice” featuring OutKast. OutKast and Goodie Mob are a part of the legendary Southern Rap clique “The Dungeon Family” and now that Goodie Mob is back together, it is making me long all the more to see OutKast back together. In the mean time I can’t wait to hear the new Goodie Mob album. Now I’m sure many of you are a little unfamiliar with Goodie Mob, but I can tell you they were an awesome and important part of the Southern Rap movement in the 90s. So tell me, what you really know about the Dirty South?

Follow Me On Spotify!!!

Spotify is an amazing music subscription service that puts millions and millions of songs at your finger tips, instantly. It’s like Pandora Radio, but better because you can choose exactly what you want to listen to (artist, album, song) and not be forced to listen to what Pandora thinks you want to listen to, but if that’s what you want, Spotify also has their own Pandora style radio stations as well.

I’ve used it basically since it first became available in North America, back in July 2011. It started in Europe first and was such a huge success there, it’s now spreading worldwide. It’s also a great place to share music and playlists with your friends. Recently, they have also added really cool music apps that help make the music listening experience even cooler. There is a Rolling Stone app, a Billboard app, a last.fm app and a bunch of other really cool and useful apps.

I’ve explained how exactly the service works, from the free to paid options in a previous post, so I wont bore you with those details again. If you would like to learn more, you can read the previous blog post at the link below:

Or you can go to:

http://www.spotify.com

Anyway, on to the purpose of this post. Join Spotify if you already haven’t and enjoy the expansive universe of music available. If you have already joined and/or when you do, follow my Spotify account and check out what I’m listening to and take a listen to one of my MANY playlists. Hey, you never know I may even start doing special Volume 11 playlist just for you guys.

Keep in mind one of the flaws with Spotify is how it tracks your listsens. It puts up a list of your most listened to artists, albums and songs, but it can be very inaccurate. Right now it says my most listened to artist is currently Common, but I’ve been listening to far more Phil Collins, Matchbox Twenty and Grateful Dead, as of late. Also whatever music you actually own and is loaded into your computer, will automatically be loaded in to your Spotify library, but since artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin aren’t on Spotify they and other non-Spotify artists won’t be tracked, even if your listening to your own Beatles CD’s through Spotify. Otherwise you would see The Beatles and Pink Floyd on top of my listens list a lot. Anyway, follow my Spotify account by clicking the link below and then clicking Add To Favorites when you get to my account. Once you are following me, message me, so I can follow you back. We can start a great little community.:

Song Of The Day: 4/22/12 (The Rainbow Connection)

I just finished watching the awesome new Muppet movie, “The Muppets” and now I have this classic “The Rainbow Connection” stuck in my head. Also today is Earth Day, which makes this song fitting for today, so “The Rainbow Connection” is today’s song of the day. Happy Earth Day!!!
